Since I now work for myself(not my choice...my boss is cool, but the pay sucks), I like to take Monday and look back over my weekend, finish things and start getting ready for the new week.
I also take a look over the want ads because this is great but, again, it doesn't really pay the bills(yet?). Having lived for awhile in Disturbia, I've learned keywords in ads that scream beware and just confuse the pants off you. I've decided that I'd pass along some of the...more interesting/fun/thought provoking ones. Names and places will be obscured because these people like to sue, there will be no links(I'm not here to help the offenders) and most times it will be a snip of an ad.
So our first in a long, long, long line of Admonishing Ads is(drumroll please, after all it is the first)
an entry level mail position
This position is responsible for general mail service duties which include handling in and outbound mail for the SOC.
Duties include the following….
Delivery of mail, overnight and ground shipments.
Sort and process outbound client, business area and agent mail.
Assist in print shop and on MIN & USFL mail desks as required.
I have no clue what the SOC, MIN, or USFL mean(yes, I did look). The closest I can come is SOC-State of Confusion(possibly), MIN-minimum(which makes no sense) and USFL- United States Football League(?) or United States-Florida(?) By the way I have shipping/mailroom experience and I still have no clue, so imagine someone who is truly an entry level worker.
So if you are an employer and do not want to appear on this list, keep your inhouse jargon to a minimum in your help wanted ad.
I feel the need to say this--
If this is your actual ad...just laugh, rewrite and realize that there are people who have no clue what you are actually looking for.
Have fun and laugh at yourself, believe me it's good.
